Indie

Indie is very much a current subculture, and refers to both a style of clothing and music. It's slightly left of what is considered commercial, but also isn't too out there for people to feel like they need to oppose it. More recently indie music took over pop music in the charts with bands like Arctic Monkeys. Indie bands started with only signing to independent record labels, but as the scene got bigger there was more allowance for bands to sign to major labels but still play the same music. Some bands choose to stay on the smaller labels, like Modest Mouse.

Indie style is pretty much in the same vein, slightly left of what is considered commercial. Band t shirts and skinny jeans, a pair of converse or chelsea boots and maybe scarf.

Indie is a fairly vague subculture which mixes a bit of everything, like a lot of the subcultures which span from others, and can be really commercial looking or more alternative.
