Baggies

Baggies began in the late 80s and early 90s and the trend was linked to the Madchester scene of that time, where both terms could be used to describe the same thing. The Happy Mondays are typically prolific for the baggies, and also a big part of Madchester, as baggy music was psychedelia and acid house music. Baggy music had a large crossover between indie music and dance music, and bands tended to lean more towards one than the other, which helped to identify more of the Madchester scene, as they were more indie based.

The Madchester scene doesn't exist any more, but it is a very indie based city, with more modern bands coming out of the scene such as The Courteeners. In a way this is like a progression in the subculture over time from the baggies, where the dance part has now been almost entirely dropped.
