Crusties

Crusties are another subculture generated from punk, but had a later time scale of the late 80s and early 90s. Crusties are, as you could easily assume, known for their unkempt appearance, wearing second hand clothing, having dreadlocks (which naturally don't require much care), and having tattoos and piercings. They're linked to activities like raves, protests and anti-capitalism.

Even though the raves of the eighties are largely similar to the ideology of the crusties, it could be suggested that the fact crusties are also linked to begging and squatting, that perhaps they would be far more looked down upon as a subculture than those involved in raves. Being a crustie is more of a lifestyle, where ravers would attend parties every so often, but in day to day life you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell that they attended raves.
